Scholarships available to UIS Lincoln and Leadership institute for high school sophomores January 8, 2004 SPRINGFIELD - The University of Illinois at Springfield will make 100 full scholarships available for current Illinois high school sophomores who wish to attend the one-week Abraham Lincoln & Leadership Summer Institutes to be held June 13-18 and July 18-23. Fifty students will be included in each program date. The Lincoln & Leadership Summer Institutes are an educational opportunity for high school students to spend time in a college atmosphere and immerse themselves in the lessons of Lincoln's legacy and leadership. Students live in the Lincoln Residence Hall on the UIS campus and participate in campus life with mentor-counselors who provide support and supervision. Tutoring and technology training are also available. Students in the program have an opportunity to use primary research documents and work together in small groups, learning cooperatively and developing projects and new technology skills. Application materials can be found online. Scholarships are awarded based on self-descriptive essays that include the student's reasons for applying. Applications must be postmarked by March 14. A four-week program for high school juniors, granting six hours of transferable college credit, is scheduled for June 20-July 16. For more information, contact program director Peggy Dunn at (217) 206-7398. |
