Photos by UIS professor part of Jacksonville exhibitFebruary 3, 2006
SPRINGFIELD – Photographs by Kathy Petitte Jamison, assistant professor of Communication at the University of Illinois at Springfield, are among the works on display through February 26 at the Art Association of Jacksonville, David Strawn Art Gallery, 331 W. College Ave., Jacksonville. Gallery hours are Tuesday through Saturday, 4 to 6 p.m., and Sunday, 1 to 3 p.m. Jamison’s photos focus on a small candle shop in France, established in 1735, the oldest candle factory in France and the only one in Europe still making candles by hand. She explained, “The shop was part of the courtyard where I lived for a year while involved in a teaching exchange between the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and the University of Poitiers. The factory is owned by the Guedon family, who were my landlords.” Jamison added that the factory supplies candles to all the cathedrals and churches in the region of Poitou-Charentes and has been the subject of news, magazine, and documentary pieces.
All photos for this exhibit were shot without tripods, using digital equipment and natural light. For more information, phone the gallery at (217) 243-9390.
