  FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

U of I alumni association offers mid-career and job search workshops

February 1, 2006

SPRINGFIELD – The University of Illinois Alumni Association at the University of Illinois at Springfield and the UIS Alumni SAGE Society will sponsor a workshop on “Options for Your Life’s Work at Mid-Life and Beyond” from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, February 16, in conference room G, located on the lower level of the Public Affairs Center on the UIS campus.

The session will be led by Claudia Delestowicz, from the UIAA’s award-winning Alumni Career Center in Chicago, who will address the role of work for those at mid-life and beyond. Delestowicz will present an overview of work options and a list of self-assessment questions that can be useful when goals for work may be more about meaningful occupation than career mobility.  She will also offer tips on how participants can design and execute a plan that fulfills unique personal and professional goals for a job search, career change, or phased retirement, now and in the future.

For those not so far advanced in their professional lives, Delestowicz will offer a workshop on “Managing a Comprehensive Job Search,” aimed at current students and recent graduates, from 5 to 6 p.m., also in PAC conference room G. In this program, Delestowicz will share career-building tools and resources and offer tips on networking with alumni professionals through the UIAA online directory.

The Alumni Career Center is sponsored by the Alumni Association and offers career-related services to alumni of any University of Illinois campus (in Urbana, Chicago, and Springfield).

Both workshops at UIS are free and open to all UI graduates and current students, as well as to the public; however reservations are required no later than Tuesday, February 14. To reserve a space, phone the Alumni Association at UIS at 217/206-7395 or e-mail alumni@uis.edu.
