UIS presentation will examine “Economic Consequences of the Tsunami”

February 9, 2005

SPRINGFIELD -  “The Economic Consequences of the Tsunami” will be the subject of a presentation by Dr. Baker Siddiquee at 7 p.m. Thursday, February 17, in Public Affairs Center conference room C/D at the University of Illinois at Springfield. UIS’ Capital Scholars program is sponsoring the event, which is free and open to the public.

Siddiquee is associate professor of Economics at UIS, where he has been on the faculty since 1987. He served as department chair for a number of years and spent the summer terms of 1996 and 2002 as visiting professor at North South University in Dhaka, Bangladesh. Before coming to UIS, he taught economics at the University of Manitoba and at Jahangirnagar University, also in Bangladesh.

Siddiquee’s current research interests are in international economics and monetary theory, while his teaching focuses on economic theory, international trade and finance, econometrics, and economic development. He received the B.S. and M.S. degrees in economics from Jahangirnagar University and an M.A. and Ph.D. in economics from the University of Manitoba.
