“Consensus Reality” next at UIS Visual Arts Gallery

February 12, 2004

SPRINGFIELD - “Consensus Reality,” an exhibit of cast bronze sculptures by Thad Duhigg, will be on display at the Visual Arts Gallery at the University of Illinois at Springfield from February 18 through March 11. The gallery will host an evening with the artist on Thursday, February 26, beginning with a talk at 5 p.m. followed by a reception from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. The talk, reception, and exhibit are free and open to the public.

Modeled on and inspired by everyday pop culture objects, Duhigg’s sculptures have been hailed as “elegantly constructed works” that “possess a deceptive simplicity.”

Currently associate professor and sculpture area head in the Department of Art and Design at Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville, he has participated in more than 50 solo and group exhibitions, including a three-month installation at the Amarillo Museum of Art and a solo exhibition at the Huntsville Museum of Art. His work is also represented in the permanent collection of several museums and universities around the country. Duhigg is the recipient of a Fulbright Scholar award and a Guggenheim Scholar award. He received the M.F.A. from Syracuse University with a specialization in sculpture.

The Visual Arts Gallery is located in room 201 of the Health and Sciences Building on the UIS campus. Gallery hours are 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Thursday. For more information, contact Emily Laverty at (217) 206-6506.
