“Choson Series” next at UIS Visual Arts Gallery

SPRINGFIELD – Ronald Clayton’s “Choson Series,” a collection of paintings inspired by the artist’s admiration for Korea, will be on display in the Visual Arts Gallery at the University of Illinois at Springfield from Tuesday, February 12, through Thursday, March 14.  An opening reception with the artist is scheduled for 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. February 12 in the gallery.  Both the exhibit and the reception are free and open to the public.

Clayton is chair of the art department at Southeast Missouri State University.  During 1998-99 he spent a total of nine months in Korea at the invitation of Kunsan National University and as a Korean Studies Fellow.  He says, “These illusionistic paintings juxtapose interior spaces and landscapes as a metaphor for an industrialized Korea trying to maintain her balance as she emerges from a turbulent past.”

The Visual Arts Gallery is located in room 201 of the Health and Sciences Building on the UIS campus.  Gallery hours are 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Thursday.
