"Fresh Air" to air on WUIS/WIPA

SPRINGFIELD — WUIS (91.9) in Springfield and WIPA (89.3) in Pittsfield are adding a new program to their public radio schedule beginning at 3 p.m. March 1. "Fresh Air," a one-hour, award-winning, thought-provoking program hosted by Terry Gross, is a daily magazine of contemporary arts and issues.

WUIS/WIPA will broadcast "Fresh Air" weekdays, right before "All Things Considered." (The program "Performance Today" will air from 1 to 3 p.m. and classical music with host Jackie Gerber will move to 9 p.m. weekdays.)

Gross first broadcast her interviews with noted national and international guests in 1973 at a public radio station in Buffalo. Her program now originates from WHYY in Philadelphia. The San Francisco Chronicle says Gross presents "a remarkable blend of empathy and warmth, genuine curiosity, and sharp intelligence."

Gross has interviewed cultural and entertainment figures, politicians, journalists, and many others, even a cyclist. "Fresh Air" also includes comments from nationally recognized critics.

"Fresh Air" is carried by over 300 public radio stations in the United States, as well as in Europe and Japan.

The cost for "Fresh Air’s" first year of broadcast is provided by nine individual supporting members of WUIS/WIPA.
