Events mark 30th anniversary of Roe v. Wade
SPRINGFIELD – Two student groups at the University of Illinois at Springfield – Women’s Issues Caucus and College Democrats – will join Planned Parenthood Springfield Area to observe the 30th anniversary of Roe v. Wade with a brown bag seminar scheduled for noon on Wednesday, January 22, in the Public Affairs Center on the UIS campus. The event will include a panel discussion, an open forum, and a short film.
On January 22, 1973, the U.S. Supreme Court handed down its landmark decision legalizing abortion in the United States and guaranteeing the right to make private decisions about childbearing.
In conjunction with the observance, First Presbyterian Church, 321 S. Seventh, Springfield, will hold a special service at 5 p.m. Sunday, January 19. For more information, call 206-7173.
