SPRINGFIELD – The Angel Ticket Program, a new outreach initiative at the University of Illinois at Springfield’s Sangamon Auditorium, will make complimentary tickets to selected events available to clients of registered nonprofit organizations in Sangamon County.
Human service organizations that focus on meeting the needs of underserved adult populations are eligible to participate in the program, which is an opportunity for county residents whose financial and/or social situation make it difficult for them to attend performances in the auditorium. A limited number of tickets for each designated event will be set aside for registered organizations that apply for them. The organizations can then distribute the tickets directly to their own clients.
Programs in the auditorium’s 2003 Spring Performing Arts Series for which Angel Tickets are available include vocal ensemble Chanticleer at 8 p.m. Friday, February 14; mime and mask troupe Mummenschanz at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, February 19; Verdi’s opera Il Trovatore at 8 p.m. Saturday, March 8; Irish music group Lúnasa at 7 p.m. Sunday, March 16; dance troupe Tango Buenos Aires at 8 p.m. Saturday, March 22; Broadway musical South Pacific at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 12; classic drama The Miracle Worker at 8 p.m. Friday, April 25; and Cajun group BeauSoleil at 8 p.m. Saturday, May 10.
Interested nonprofit organizations, as well as businesses and individuals who would like to help fund the Angel Ticket program, are encouraged to contact Carly Shank, program coordinator, at (217) 206-6150 for an application or more information.
