UIS First Week welcomes students back to campusAugust 8, 2006SPRINGFIELD – The University of Illinois at Springfield will welcome students to the fall semester with a variety of "First Week" events August 18 through 27. All First Week events are free and will be held on the UIS campus. Valid UIS ID may be required to take part in some events. UIS director of student life Cynthia Thompson said that First Week is a campus tradition designed to help both new and returning students "unravel the mysteries of college life." "It's an exciting time when we try to provide all students with opportunities to meet new people, to participate in a variety of fun events, and to become acquainted with various locations and services available across campus," she said. Focusing on the theme "CSI-UIS: Campus Scene Investigations," this fall's events include an Involvement Expo, an ice cream social, Camp Out on the Quad, the Chancellor’s Welcome Back Picnic, and open houses for a number of academic programs and other departments.
