UIS faculty member publishes poetry collection
August 17, 2005
SPRINGFIELD – Shake the Thunder Down, a collection of poetry by Marcellus Leonard, associate professor of English at the University of Illinois at Springfield, has been released by Daybreak Press, the poetry imprint of Pitch-Black, LLC.
This collection spans Leonard’s 30 years as a poet, performer, and scholar and gathers together both well-known and never-before-published selections from his work, which has been called “poignant and original, finely crafted, superbly imaged – and controversial.”
Daniel Blackston, senior editor at Pitch-Black, noted, “This volume celebrates both the diversity of cultural experience and what Dr. Eugene Wiley called ‘poetic reflection, poetic brotherhood...and global-politico tragedy.’”
Daybreak Press has pursued its mission to connect worthy Illinois authors to a broader audience since 1997, when it began publishing the journal of literary miscellany Prism Quarterly.
For additional information, contact Marcellus Leonard at (217) 415-3932.
