UIS to offer “Spanish for Cultural Literacy”

SPRINGFIELD – The College of Liberal Arts and Sciences at the University of Illinois at Springfield will offer “Spanish for Cultural Literacy,” an online personal and professional development course, twice during the 2005 fall semester. The two eight-week sessions will be from August 22 through October 14, and from October 17 through December 17. Participants can enroll as either for-credit or non-credit students. 

Holly McCracken, director of CLAS Online Programs, explained, “This course will be an excellent opportunity for individuals who are preparing for business travel, planning long-awaited vacations, planning study abroad, or working with Spanish-speaking colleagues.

“Because the course is taught online, it can be taken from any location and participants can study in their own time and at their own pace,” she said. 

Each eight-week session introduces essential vocabulary and provides opportunities to practice Spanish in a wide variety of practical situations. Using an interactive online format, the instructor will introduce a range of cultural issues for consideration when communicating with Spanish-speaking people.
