UIS Visual Arts Gallery to present paintings by internationally recognized artist August 26 , 2003 SPRINGFIELD Its About Time, an exhibit of paintings by internationally recognized artist Jim Woodson, will be on display at the Visual Arts Gallery at the University of Illinois at Springfield from September 2 through 25. The gallery will host an evening with the artist on Thursday, September 18, beginning with a talk at 5 p.m. followed by a reception from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. The talk, reception, and exhibit are free and open to the public. Woodsons oil paintings introduce the dynamic energy of time into the seemingly static tranquility of desert landscapes. Critics have called them sensuously painted compositions, visually exciting, and eminently satisfying pieces that capture the viewers attention with pixilated, panoramic landscapes fused with elements of memory, perception, and fantasy. The paintings transcend the naturalistic implications of traditional landscapes and merge the illusory nature of the subconscious with reality. Woodson has been represented in numerous exhibitions throughout this country and abroad, including the Biennale Internazionale DellArte Contemporanea in Florence, Italy. He is currently associate professor of painting at Texas Christian University. The
Visual Arts Gallery is located in room 201 of the Health and Sciences
Building on the UIS campus. Gallery hours are 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday
through Thursday. For further information, please contact Emily Laverty
at 206-6506.
