SPRINGFIELD -- “Graceful Harmony,” a collection of Chinese paintings by Shuwei Bi, is the opening exhibit of the academic year at the Visual Arts Gallery at the University of Illinois at Springfield. The watercolors and black-and-white brush paintings will be on display from August 19 to September 10. A reception with the artist -- from 5:30 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, August 27, in the gallery -- is free and open to the public.
Bi is a retired professor of management information systems. He resurrected his childhood instruction in Chinese brush painting and calligraphy to create these intricate, colorful images.
The gallery is located in room 201 of the Health and Sciences Building on the UIS campus. Hours are 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Thursday. All gallery events are free and open to the public.
