WUIS/WIPA will broadcast Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur special
SPRINGFIELD – WUIS (91.91/Springfield) and WIPA (89.3/Pittsfield) will broadcast a special program in celebration of the High Holy Days – Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur – at noon on Monday, September 17.
The program will reach out to people of all faiths, using poems, selections from the Bible, readings from traditional prayers, and music by the Moscow Choir, Misha Elman, and other internationally known performers – all woven into a tapestry of sound. In a contemplative and reflective mode, the program delves into the history of these holidays and includes contemporary sounds such as Barbra Streisand's version of a familiar prayer, Avinu Malkenu, as well as the theme music from the film Schindler's List.
Host Norman Wain said, "Helping to produce this program has been the most gratifying experience of my professional life. I'm 72 years old and have been the voice of many radio shows, but the reaction I have gotten from this program is like nothing I have ever received before. It has touched a nerve with people." Wain is also the host of "Celebration!" a series broadcast on WFMT in Chicago.
The program is underwritten by The Jewish Cultural Society.
