UIS announces new director of career services
SPRINGFIELD – Patricia Swatfager-Haney, vice chancellor for student affairs, has announced the appointment of Karen Engebrecht as the new director of the career services office at the University of Illinois at Springfield, effective August 1. Engebrecht brings experience and enthusiasm to her new position.
“I want to expand our outreach services and serve as a resource for faculty, students, and alumni in the area of career awareness and development,” said Engebrecht, adding, “I also see the career services office as student-centered, focusing on individual care and personal attention.”
Engebrecht had most recently been employed as career services director and special needs director at MacMurray College, where she had been since 1987. She had also previously served as dean of students at the Illinois School for the Visually Impaired in Jacksonville and as a program planner for the Governor’s Office of Manpower and Human Development in Springfield.
Engebrecht is a licensed social worker in the state of Illinois, is affiliated with a variety of professional organizations, and has served in a number of community leadership positions.
She holds a master’s degree in public administration from UIS and a bachelor of social work degree from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
