Volunteering at UIS

UIS Cares is a half-day event in which UIS students, staff, faculty, alumni, and friends take on a service project in partnership with a community-based organization. This year UIS will again partner with Washington Middle School, 2300 E. Jackson, to work on landscaping projects on the school grounds. Pat Robertson, director of Student Volunteers, Service, and Civic Engagement, will coordinate the project.

Said Robertson, "Much of the first- and second-year efforts were spent on cleaning up, planning, and preparing and we are finally ready to do some things that 'show.' We intend to participate in the citywide competition for best before and after yard improvement project. We have some great plans."

Volunteers should meet at WMS at 8 a.m. and should wear heavy shoes and bring tools and work gloves, if possible. Lunch will be served at noon.

To sign up as a volunteer or for information about other ways to help, contact Robertson at 206-7828.
