UIS music groups to present Spring Showcase Concert

April 19, 2006

SPRINGFIELD – Music groups at the University of Illinois at Springfield will present their annual Spring Showcase Concert at 7:30 p.m. Friday, April 28, in the Studio Theatre, located on the lower level of the Public Affairs Center on the UIS campus.

The concert will feature the UIS Band, Chorus, Chamber Orchestra, and World Percussion Ensemble in a varied repertoire.

The UIS Band will perform works ranging from traditional Dixieland jazz to Beethoven’s Military March in D to the UIS Fight Song.  The UIS Chorus will perform a variety of traditional, popular, and folk pieces and will join with the UIS Chamber Orchestra to perform Bach’s Jesus Bleibet Meine Freude and Stanley and Shaw’s I am a Man of Constant Sorrow from the motion picture O Brother, Where Art Thou?  The Chamber Orchestra will perform a number of other pieces and will also join with the UIS World Percussion Ensemble for Marsha Chusmir Shapiro’s African Accent.
