“Ceiling Zero” showcases works by UIS senior art studentsApril 14, 2006SPRINGFIELD – “Ceiling Zero,” an exhibition of work by seniors in the Visual Arts program at the University of Illinois at Springfield, will be on display from April 27 to May 13 in the Great Room at Lincoln Residence Hall on the UIS campus. An opening reception will be held from 5:30 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, April 27. The reception and exhibition are free and open to the public. Students represented in this display of painting, sculpture, and graphic design are James Cockroft, Prudence Edwards, Gary Hinkle, Rich Kohlrus, Valerie Lehman, and Doug Robbins. This group effort uses a variety of styles and artistic approaches to create nostalgic graphic imagery exploring the innocence of past experience and to express contemporary personal and social issues. Digital and comic-inspired forms, simple yet functional expression, architecture and advertising, and relaxed scenes of the west coast all reflect individual means of communication and, while the works are personal to each artist, viewers will nevertheless find many commonalities.
Lincoln Residence Hall is located south of the Public Affairs Center and east of University Hall on the UIS campus. The LRH Great Room is located on the first floor. For more information, contact Lara Stremsterfer by phone at 206-6506 or by e-mail at visarts-ga@uis.edu. |
