UIS to hold annual Alternative Prom

April 10, 2006

SPRINGFIELD – The Queer-Straight Alliance at the University of Illinois at Springfield will host its third annual Alternative Prom from 8 p.m. to midnight on Friday, April 14, on the stage at Sangamon Auditorium, located in the Public Affairs Center on the UIS campus.

The alcohol-free event is open to all lesbian, gay, bi-sexual, transgendered, and questioning youth and their allies in the area. Previously hosted by Students Against Sexual Stereotypes and Inequalities at UIS, the Alternative Prom is an opportunity for LGBTQ youth to express themselves at a “very informal formal” while having a good time with friends in a safe environment.

One student ID (from a high school or university) will admit the holder and up to four guests. No one will be admitted after 9:30 p.m.  A king and queen will be chosen, door prizes will be awarded, and refreshments will be available.

For more information, contact Renee Rathjen, QSA co-chair, at 309/269-6401 or e-mail qsa@uis.edu.
