UIS alumni to host “Pathways to Dynamic Careers”

April 3, 2006

SPRINGFIELD – The Alumni Council of the University of Illinois at Springfield’s College of Education and Human Services will sponsor “Pathways to Dynamic Careers” from 4:30 to 6 p.m. on Monday, April 24, in the Sangamon Auditorium lobby, Public Affairs Center at UIS.

The event is designed to provide information to individuals considering a career in education or human services, as well as to assist current students with career decisions and to provide an opportunity for alumni and others in the community to network and learn more about ways to use their degrees.

The event will feature UIS alumni who have gone on to successful careers in fields related to education and human services, such as school principals, teachers, administrators, social workers, counselors, marriage and family therapists, and professionals in the field of aging, substance abuse, and child and family services. They will be available to talk informally about their career paths, what they like about the paths they have chosen, and how to get ahead professionally. Representatives from UIS’ Career Development Center and from online programs within the College of Education and Human Services and other degree programs at UIS will also be on hand to answer questions.

Participants can also learn stress reduction techniques, get a neck massage from professional massage therapists, and get tips on establishing a private counseling practice.

UIS alumni who have their own counseling-, education-, or human services-related businesses are invited to participate as exhibitors.  For more information, contact Peggy Mayfield at pmayf1@uis.edu or call the Alumni Association at 217/206-7395.
