Psychology honor society to induct 35 at UIS

April 12, 2004

SPRINGFIELD - The University of Illinois at Springfield chapter of Psi Chi, the national honor society in psychology, will induct 35 new members during ceremonies to be held on campus Sunday, April 18.  Seventeen of the new members were inducted last fall, and another 18 joined this spring.  The ceremony will honor all new members.

The UIS chapter of Psi Chi was designated as a “model chapter” by the national office for both 2001-2002 and 2002-2003.

Psi Chi was founded in 1929 to encourage, stimulate, and maintain excellence in scholarship and to advance the science of psychology. Membership is awarded to qualified graduate and undergraduate students who are making the study of psychology one of their major interests. Psi Chi is a member of the Association of College Honor Societies and is an affiliate of the American Psychological Association and the American Psychological Society. There are more than 1,000 chapters at college and university campuses throughout the U.S.

    The University of Illinois at Springfield, one of three U of I campuses, is a small, public liberal arts university that offers 40 degree programs – 20 bachelor’s, 19 master’s, and the Doctorate of Public Administration.
