SPRINGFIELD – The next program in the Taste of UIS lunchtime series sponsored by the University of Illinois Alumni Association at UIS will be Wednesday, April 23, at Maldaner’s Upstairs, 222 S. Sixth St., Springfield. Hei-Chi Chan, UIS assistant professor of Mathematics, will speak on “Fascinating Physics.”
In the 20th century, physicists made many striking discoveries about nature. While some of these breakthroughs led to Nobel Prizes, the ideas behind most of them are nevertheless stunning in their simplicity. Chan will survey some of these developments – in simple terms – and will share the joy and excitement that comes from finding out how nature works.
A buffet lunch will be available starting at 11:30 a.m. Chan’s presentation will begin at 12:10 p.m. and conclude by 12:50 p.m. Reservations are $13 for Alumni Association members, $18 for non-members, and must be made by Monday, April 21.
Payment can be made by check or credit card. To make reservations, e-mail Alumni@uis.edu or phone 206-7395.
