In addition to directing the work of the department, this
unit is also responsible operating the campus motor pool, physical plant stores,
managing utilities, paying bills, monitoring expenditures, and new

Administrative Secretary The Office of Building Maintenance performs both building maintenance and minor remodeling. All requests for work orders, routine maintenance, and repairs should contact the Office of Building Maintenance at 206-6530. Should an emergency arise after normal business hours, the campus police should be contacted at 206-6690. All requests for remodeling should be coordinated through the department head or dean in each specific department making the request. The Office of Building Services is responsible for managing
custodial services, event setups, weekly equipment and furniture moves,
and special equipment needs for students. The Office of Building Services
also is responsible for all scheduling for classrooms, labs, meeting rooms,
and outdoor facilities. Should there be a need for any of the above-mentioned
services except scheduling of events, the Office of Building Services
may be contacted at 206-6053. The contact telephone number for event scheduling
is 206-6378. This unit is also responsible for cleaning all buildings,
arranging furniture and equipment for special events, and for moving furniture

206-6053 The beautiful flowers and trees seen around campus are planted and maintained by the Grounds Maintenance Department. The UIS campus consists of 746 acres. Three hundred and seventy of these acres are used for campus purposes and cared for by the grounds crew; the rest is used as farm land. The grounds crew is responsible for maintenance of all turf, trees, shrubs, annuals, perennials, parking lots, roadways, and sidewalks. They maintain 12 youth soccer fields for the YMCA, three UIS practice soccer fields and Kiwanis Stadium, home of the Prairie Stars soccer team. Other responsibilities include snow removal, setting up
for outside events, setting out picnic tables, care of campus indoor
plants, and installing sign posts. The grounds crew consists of a
superintendent, tree surgeon, mechanic, asst. grounds gardener, and 8
full-time grounds workers.
