the GATEWAY TO PHILOSOPHY course

Something for Everyone

The Gateway to Philosophy course is available to three different groups of people: those who are curious about Philosophy, those who are seriously considering a Philosophy degree, and those who are already Philosophy students.

Once at the Gateway site, one of three paths may be chosen depending on one’s interest. Some features of this site are password-protected, but the ones that are not are for general public interest.

Requirements for Students

The Gateway is a 0-credit course designed to familiarize students with the subject of Philosophy: what is Philosophy, and what do philosophers do? Other components of the course include entry of personal data, a light-hearted aptitude test measuring critical thinking skills and knowledge of philosophy, and assignment of a faculty adviser. It is possible to complete this course in an afternoon.

Both online and on-campus students must complete this requirement AS SOON AS POSSIBLE but no later than the last 16 semester hours of Philosophy courses are taken.
