Fall 2018 First-Year (Freshmen) New Student Orientation

(for first-year, freshmen students enrolling at UIS in the Fall of 2018 and students admitted to the Summer 2018 semester. Registration for Summer KickStart will go live early February 2018)

There are two parts to the mandatory first-year (freshmen) orientation experience.  Students will attend one of the Part I: June/July Overnight Orientation sessions.  August Launch Week: Reach for the Stars, is the second part of the mandatory Orientation program.  Please make sure to note this on personal and family calendars when planning work and vacation schedules.

Part I: 2018 Summer KickStart.

June/July Overnight, First-Year and Parent/Family Orientation Sessions (students will only need to choose one date)  Registration will open the first week of February 2018. Brochures will be mailed to students who have sent back their Acceptance of Admission form and their parents/guardian beginning in later January.

  • F1:  Monday, June 11 – Tuesday, June 12
  • F2:  Friday, June 15-Saturday, June 16
  • F3:   Monday, June 18-Tuesday, June 19
  • F4:  Thursday, June 21-Friday, June 22
  • F5:  TBD
  • F7: Monday, August 20 – Tuesday, August 21  ** This session is reserved for out-of-state and international students and students who are admitted between July 1 and August 20.  They will be given priority for this session. Eligible students will be sent a link to register for this date to their personal email.

Part II: August Launch Week: Reach for the Stars

August Launch Week for all new First-Year, Freshmen, is tentatively set for August 22-August 25, 2018 (a draft schedule available from link above, a detailed schedule will be available in early August 2018)

New Transfer and Graduate Student Orientation Sessions

Orientation for new Transfer and Graduate Students is not mandatory, but highly encouraged.  The program is designed to provide students with an opportunity to “Take Care of Business” while campus offices are open. Registration for Transfer and Graduate Orientation sessions will be available in February.

Summer 2018  Transfer/Graduate New Student Orientation for Summer and Fall 2018 Admits

(for New Transfer/Graduate Students Admitted for Summer and Fall 2018) *This is the only session for student admitted to the Summer 2018 semester before the start of summer classes.

* T/G 1:  Thursday, May 31, 2018  (4-7:30 p.m.)
Summer semester classes begin Monday, June 4, 2018


Fall 2018 Transfer/Graduate New Student Orientation (for New Transfer/Graduate Students Admitted for Fall 2018) 

* TG 2:  Wednesday, July 18 (4-7:30 p.m.)

* TG 3:  Friday, August 17 (4-7:30 p.m.)
Fall semester classes begin Monday, August 27, 2018

For Fall 2018 Transfer Students…Introducing our first Transfer Overnight Orientation Session

Transfer Student Orientation, Advising, & Registration (T-SOAR).
Wednesday, June 13 – Thursday, June 14

Would you like a more traditional, overnight Orientation experience that will give you opportunities to meet with other Transfer students like you? Participants will have opportunities to meet with current students who transferred to UIS, receive one-on-one advising with your academic advisor, and attend sessions to get your acclimated to the University and prepared for success at UIS!  More information will be available in late November.  Online registration will open February 12, 2018.  Please note, there will be a fee for this session to cover costs of staying overnight in the summer conference hall and meals.


Spring 2019 Orientation Dates
