Future Orientation Dates

Spring 2016 Orientation Schedule

(for students admitted to the UIS for the Spring Semester of 2016 registration for these orientation sessions will be live on October 1, 2015 )

  • Tuesday, January 12:  Transfer and Graduate Student Orientation 
    • Transfer and Graduate Students who are moving into UIS’s on-campus residence halls, townhomes, or apartments can get their keys from the Department of Residence Life at the Homer L. Butler Commons (aka Housing Commons, building 20 on the campus map) beginning Tuesday, January 12 from 8:30 a.m. – 5 p.m.  If students miss this time they can go to the Department of Residence Life from 8:30 a.m. – 5 p.m. Wednesday – Friday or by calling 217/206-6690 from 8-11 p.m. Tuesday-Friday and asking for the Resident Assistant on duty for the community they are moving into.
  • Wednesday, January 13- Thursday January 14:  Spring KickStart (Freshmen Orientation, Part I); Spring Launch: Thursday, January 14-Saturday, January 16, and Monday, January 18 (Freshmen Orientation, Part II)
  • Friday, January 15: Inclement Weather reschedule for Transfer/Graduate program if it is cancelled due to inclement weather
  • Saturday, January 16:  10 a.m. – 5 p.m. Inclement Weather reschedule for First-Year Orientation.

 

Fall 2016 First-Year (Freshmen) New Student Orientation

(for first-year, freshmen students enrolling at UIS in the Fall of 2016)

There are two parts to the mandatory first-year (freshmen) orientation experience.  Students will attend one of the Part I: June/July Overnight Orientation sessions.  August Launch Week: Reach for the Stars, is the second part of the Orientation program.  Please make sure to note this on personal and family calendars when planning work and vacation schedules.

Part I: June/July Overnight, First-Year Orientation Sessions (choose one)

  • F1:  Tuesday, June 14-Wednesday, June 15 (Open to 40 Traditional and 20 Honors Students)
  • F2:  Friday, June 17-Saturday, June 18 (Open to 40 Traditional and 20 Honors Students; Student Athlete Recommended Session)
  • F3:   Tuesday, June 21-Wednesday, June 22  (Open to 40 Traditional and 20 Honors Students; Student Athlete Recommended Session)
  • F4:  Monday, July 18-Tuesday, July 19 (Open to 20 Traditional and 20 STARS students)
  • F5:  Thursday, July 21-Friday, July 22 (Open to 40 Traditional and 20 Honors Students; Student Athlete Recommended Session)
  • F7: Monday, August 15 – Tuesday, August 16  ** This session is reserved for students admitted/accepted after July 1, out-of-state, and international students.  They will be given priority for this session. Registration for this date will open July 15, 2016.

Part II: August Launch Week: Reach for the Stars (Orientation Week for all new First-Year, Freshmen), August 17-August 20

  • 8 a.m. – 5 p.m.           First Year Move-in to on-campus housing
  • 8 a.m. – 5 p.m.           Orientation Check-in for On-Campus Students, Founders Residence Hall and Lincoln Residence Hall
  • 3:30 – 4 p.m.              Orientation Check-in for Commuter Students, Public Affairs Center (PAC)
  • 4 – 5 p.m.                   Commuter Student Meet ‘n Greet (mandatory for freshmen living off-campus)
  • 4 – 5 p.m.                   Residence Life Bingo (mandatory for students living in FRH and LRH)
  • 4 – 5 p.m.                   Prairie Star Family Association
  • 5 – 6 p.m.                   Welcome BBQ (FREE)
  • 6:15 – 7:30 p.m.         New Student and Family Convocation, Sangamon Auditorium (FREE)
  • 8 – 9 p.m.                   Prairie Star Connections (replacing PlayFair)
  • 9:30  p.m.                    Residence Life  Floor Meetings

Thursday, August 18

10 a.m. – 5 p.m. Mandatory programming;

Friday, August 19

10 a.m. – 5 p.m. Mandatory programming;

Saturday, August 20

10 a.m. – 1 p.m. and 5 -8 p.m.  Mandatory programming;

First Day of Classes

New Transfer and Graduate Student Orientation Sessions

Orientation for new Transfer and Graduate Students is not mandatory, but highly encouraged.  The program is designed to provide students with an opportunity to “Take Care of Business” while campus offices are open.
