AMTRAK ARRIVALS - When purchasing your train tickets, please make sure your final destination is the Springfield, IL Amtrak Station.  Please check the online Orientation session schedule before selecting your arrival time. The New Student Orientation schedule is timed so students will accomplish the tasks that are required before starting classes.   Make sure you give yourself at least an hour between the arrival of your train station and the start of the Orientation program so you can check-in to your residence hall.

To get from the train station to campus you may want to use one of the taxi companies serving Springfield.

PARKING – If you are driving to campus parking for New Student Orientation will be in Parking Lot D with overflow in Parking Lot C. Please reference the “Visitors and Residential Student Parking map” link for further details.  Look for the Orientation Staff in their blue orientation polos near Parking Lot D for assistance.

What to Bring to the Orientation Sessions

STUDENTS

  • Government Issued ID: Passport, Driver’s License, State ID (if you do not have a driver’s license)
  • Proof of immunization if not already provided to the university
  • Net ID and Net Password for class registration
  • Spending money (for vending machines or the UIS Bookstore – which has great UIS gear!)
  • Rain wear (just in case!)
  • Sweater or jacket (some meeting rooms can be a little chilly)

  • Casual clothes
  • Comfortable shoes

  • A good book ( you will have some time to relax)
