SPRINGFIELD - An art exhibit, music recital, theater, and good food will be featured Friday, April 11, during Arts Night at the University of Illinois at Springfield. This annual event is presented as an opportunity for the community to enjoy a variety of arts-related activities. Sponsors this year are the Visual and Performing Arts at UIS and the Office of UIS Alumni Relations.

The evening will begin with the opening of a juried alumni art show at 5 p.m. in the Visual Arts Gallery, located in room 201 of the Health and Sciences Building. A panel discussion of the exhibit will begin at 5:30 p.m. and a wine and hors d'oeuvres reception will immediately follow in the gallery. The exhibit, discussion, and reception are all free and open to the public.

The UIS Chamber Orchestra will present a recital beginning at 7:30 p.m. in the Office of Electronic Media's TV studio, located in the lower level of the Public Affairs Center. Recital tickets are $6 and can be purchased that evening at the Sangamon Auditorium Ticket Office, in the PAC lobby area. Five dollars from each ticket sold will be used to benefit the UIS Music Student Merit Award.

UIS Theatre's production of Period of Adjustment, a "serious comedy" by Tennessee Williams, will begin at 8 p.m. in the Studio Theatre, also in the lower level of the PAC. Admission to the play is $12 general adult; $10 senior citizen (55+, must show photo ID); $8 UIS faculty/staff with current i-card; $6 all students with current school ID. Tickets are available at the Auditorium Ticket Office. Make advance reservations by calling 206-6160 or purchase tickets on the night of the performance.
