Doug Sheley, UIS' 2007 Employee of the Year |
SPRINGFIELD – Doug Sheley, building service sub-foreman at the University of Illinois at Springfield, was named 2007 Employee of the Year at the 25th annual Employee of the Year Recognition Ceremony, held February 5 on the UIS campus.
Sheley was selected from among 11 UIS staff members who had been employees of the month during the past year. He was employee of the month for June.
Materials nominating him at that time noted "Doug is always calm, pleasant, professional, and helpful. His position is very demanding and he is just the right person for it. He is one of the hardest-workers we have on staff. He’ll do anything at any time for anybody."
Serving as master of ceremonies, Wesley Weisenburn, assistant vice president for human resources, cited all 11 employees of the month for their "exemplary characteristics and attitudes. They serve as role models," he said. "They lead by example." UIS Chancellor Richard Ringeisen made the official announcement and presentation.
As he accepted the honor, Sheley said, "It was a total shock when I was selected employee of the month, and this is an even bigger shock. Every one of the other nominees deserves this. It's a total team effort. I work with a great bunch of people."
Other employees of the month for 2007 were Dale Abeln, building service supervisor; Pat Austin, administrative aide, Academic Affairs; Brian Beckerman, assistant supervisor of grounds; Lisa Clemmons-Stott, development director, WUIS; Kathryn Kleeman, assistant director, Admissions; Patsy Nation, secretary, Academic Affairs; John Ringle, director, Housing and Residential Life; Melanie Smith, employment services manager, Human Resources; Bill Ulery, lead plant stationary engineer; and Kristie Wilson, catering supervisor.
The UIS Employee of the Year receives gifts that include a check for $500.
