UIS presents 30th annual International Festival

SPRINGFIELD – The University of Illinois at Springfield will host its 30th annual International Festival, "A Celebration of Food and Culture Around the World," from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday, January 27. The festival features cultural performances in Sangamon Auditorium, located in the Public Affairs Center, from 4 to 6 p.m., and a cultural bazaar with exhibits and food in the Food Emporium, located in the lower level of the PAC, from 6 to 8 p.m.

Countries to be represented include Brazil, France, Germany, India, Japan, the Philippines, and Poland. Many student clubs and organizations will take part, as well as the UIS Office of International Student Services, UIS Office of International Programs, the Sister City Association of Springfield, and the Springfield Commission on International Visitors of the Springfield Convention & Visitors Bureau.

Entertainment will feature a variety of group dances, solo performances, and skits from Asia, Latin America, and Europe. The food booths will offer ethnic dishes – including vegetarian dishes and desserts – from Japan, India, Poland, Brazil, and a number of other countries. Information on 2008 Global Experience Study Abroad Programs coordinated through UIS' Office of International Programs will also be available.

The admission fee covers the cost of exhibits, food, and performances. Tickets are $10 for the general public or $5 for students and children. Children age 6 and under and UIS students with valid ID are admitted free. Tickets may be purchased in advance at the Sangamon Auditorium Ticket Office, located on the second level of the Public Affairs Center, phone 206-6160. The Ticket Office will open at 3 p.m. on January 27, and a limited number of tickets will be available on the day of the festival.
