SPRINGFIELD – Sangamon Auditorium at the University of Illinois at Springfield will kick off this year's Family Series at UIS Friday, October 12, at 7 p.m. with a performance by the Cashore Marionettes - Simple Gifts in the UIS Studio Theatre.
Unmatched in artistry, grace, and refinement of movement, the internationally acclaimed Cashore Marionettes redefine the art of puppetry through virtuoso manipulation, beautiful music, theatrical illusion, and artistic insight. Simple Gifts, featuring original vignettes, is a series of touching portrayals and poignant scenes from everyday life, set to stunning music by such composers as Vivaldi, Strauss, Beethoven, and Copland.
Since 1990, Joseph Cashore has been performing full-time across North America, Europe, and Asia. He has received numerous awards including a Pew Charitable Trusts' Fellowship for Performance Art, based on his artistic accomplishment. He has also received a Henson Foundation Grant, an award intended to help promote puppetry to adult audiences. Mr. Cashore has also been awarded the highest honor an American puppeteer can receive, a UNIMA Citation of Excellence. UNIMA citations are "awarded to shows that touch their audiences deeply; that totally engage, enchant, and enthrall." Joseph Cashore lives in Colmar, Pennsylvania, with his wife, Wilma, the assistant for this performance.
