SPRINGFIELD -- The second program in the spring Taste of UIS: Distinguished Faculty/Alumni Lunchtime Lectures, sponsored by the University of Illinois Alumni Association at UIS, will be Wednesday, March 21, at Maldaner's Upstairs, 222 South Sixth St., Springfield. The program is open to the public; however, reservations are required.
"African-American Women Leaders: Overcoming the Odds" will feature a presentation by three women who broke through gender and racial barriers to achieve their professional goals. Alumnae panelists will be Nina Harris, president and CEO of the Springfield Urban League; Jackie Newman, executive director of the Springfield Housing Authority; and Nicole Nash Gales, principal of Ball Charter School. Kavitha Cardoza, Springfield bureau chief for public radio WUIS, will moderate.
The next program, on Thursday, April 12, will examine "Rain Clouds and Test Pits: First Season of Fieldwork in a Neolithic Flint Workshop in Germany."
The program runs from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. and includes a buffet lunch. Cost is $20 per person, $15 for Alumni Association members and their guests.
