SPRINGFIELD – "On Story: New Work by Brian Gillis" will be on display from February 22 through March 21 at the Visual Arts Gallery at the University of Illinois at Springfield. The gallery will host an artist's presentation at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, February 22. Both the exhibit and the opening presentation are free and open to the public.
Gillis is assistant professor of Visual Art at UIS. His mixed media work explores the possibility that relationships between objects can call forth or imply a story that may be overlooked and/or lie just below the surface. "I want to elicit a dialog about the nature of the way we are taught to see and effectively perceive the world around us," he notes.
The Visual Arts Gallery is located in room 201 of the Health and Sciences Building on the UIS campus. Gallery hours are 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Thursday. (Please note: The gallery will be closed the week of March 12 while UIS students are on Spring Break.)
