SPRINGFIELD - The University of Illinois at Springfield will host its 29th annual International Festival, "Global Face Book," from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday, January 28. The festival features cultural performances in the Sangamon Auditorium, located in the Public Affairs Center, from 4 to 6 p.m., and a cultural bazaar with exhibits and food booths in the Food Emporium, located in the lower level of the PAC, from 6 to 8 p.m.
Countries to be represented include Argentina, France, Germany, India, Japan, the Philippines, and Poland. Clubs and other organizations taking part include the UIS Office of International Student Services, Office of International Programs, Cricket Club, and International Studies program; the Sister City Association of Springfield; and the Springfield Commission on International Visitors of the Springfield Convention & Visitors Bureau.
Entertainment will feature a variety of group dances, solo performances, and skits by students from Asia and Latin America, as well as an all-festival fashion show. The food booths will offer ethnic dishes – including vegetarian dishes and desserts – from Japan, India, Poland, Argentina, and a number of other countries. Information on 2007 Global Experience Study Abroad Programs coordinated through UIS' Office of International Programs will also be available.
The admission fee covers the cost of exhibits, food, and performances. Tickets are $10 for the general public or $5 for students and children. Children age 6 and under and UIS students with valid ID are admitted free. Tickets may be purchased in advance at the UIS bursar's office, located on the lower level of the Public Affairs Center, phone 206-6738.
