Nancy Perkins among celebrants at Stone Soup founder's birthday gala

Nancy Genevieve Perkins, associate professor and past-chair of the English Department, spoke and read poetry at Jack Powers' 70th birthday party on September 15 in Allston, Massachusetts.

Powers, an "icon of the Boston poetry scene," is the founder of Stone Soup Poetry, the longest-running poetry venue in Massachusetts. During its 36-year history, Stone Soup has provided poets such as Gregory Corso, Allen Ginsberg, and Robert Bly with a forum and has also published over 80 titles, including "Jack of Hearts," by Lawrence Ferlinghetti. Ferlinghetti was among the 100+ poets who sent good wishes to Powers on his birthday, acknowledging his contributions to their lives and works.

Perkins, who writes and reads her creative works under her first two names -- Nancy Genevieve -- has been an invited, Featured Poet at Stone Soup.
