Richard Gilman-Opalsky forms music/art group
Richard Gilman-Opalsky, assistant professor of political philosophy, has formed End Times Trio, a new avant-garde, music/art group that plays improvisational freejazz in the tradition of John Coltrane, Cecil Taylor, Albert Ayler, and Ornette Coleman. He notes that the group's performances are not "easy listening," but "sound paintings" -- a provocative art event "like watching a Jackson Pollock painting being made with your ears."
Gilman-Opalsky, a drummer/percussionist, previously performed this music in colleges and universities around the country, as well as in art galleries and experimental music venues in New York City. The group hopes to find an opportunity to perform on campus in the near future.
