WUIS announces essay contest winners
The ten winners in WUIS' 2nd annual "This I Believe" essay contest for area high school seniors are: Alfred Brown and Sasha Elmore, both from Lanphier High School; and Claudio Borges-Neto, Julia Christensen, Melanie Cornell, Samira Hussein, Elizabeth Ketchum, Sharon Kim, Nancy Lin, and Jasmyn McKenna, all from Springfield High.
"This I Believe" asks students to submit original 500-word essays of their personal beliefs. Winners recorded their essays, which WUIS will air weekdays from February 4 to 15 at 7:55 a.m. and again at 4:45 p.m. The students were also recognized during assemblies at their schools and each received $100 from the Sunrise Chapter of the Springfield Rotary Club.
WUIS airs the NPR series This I Believe, which asks people from all walks of life to summarize their personal philosophies. Creators of the NPR series developed a corresponding high school curriculum.
