This year’s theme is “Improving Learning Outcomes through Technology.” UIS sponsors include the Academic Technology Committee, Office of Technology-Enhanced Learning, Brookens Library, Office of Web Services, and Information Technology Services.

Proposals for presentations, roundtable discussions, and poster sessions are welcome and should be submitted by Monday, March 19.

Caring for Aging Family Members

An educational series open to UIS and LLCC students, staff, and their family members

Designed to provide information and support to individuals who are now, or who are anticipating, caring for aging family members

Both sessions will meet from 6 to 7:15 p.m. in conference room G

"Navigating the Medicare Maze"
Speaker: a representative from the Senior Health Insurance Program

Monday April 16
"Alzheimer's Disease: Responding to Communication Change"
Speaker: James Dearing, senior program manager, Alzheimer's Disease and Related Disorder Association

Gerontology students enrolled in the course Aging and Human Services will provide resource information at each session and also serve as information and referral specialists.

CAPE Award nominations open

The Academic Professional Advisory Committee is accepting nominations for the Chancellor’s Academic Professional Excellence Award, through March 21.

The CAPE Award honors all UIS Academic Professionals by recognizing one outstanding AP. Criteria are: work projects, professional development and affiliations, and contributions to one’s unit. The winner will receive $500 in cash for personal use; an additional $500 will be given to the winner’s department.

Any member of the campus community may nominate any AP.

Expanding Your Horizons conference

Science, math, and technology careers for girls

8:45 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. Saturday, March 10, in the PAC

• More than 20 hands-on sessions designed specially for girls in sixth, seventh, and eighth grades
  
• Topics include podcasting, engineering, veterinary medicine, speech pathology, architecture, psychology, television production, genetics, and forensic science
  
• Sessions for parents and teachers

Advance registration is required. Cost is $10 for those postmarked before March 1, or $15 thereafter.
