More about Dr. Wang:
Originally from Taiwan, pianist Pei-I Wang received her Doctor of Musical Arts in piano performance and literature from UIUC, where she studied piano with pianist and conductor Ian Hobson, and vocal coaching and accompanying with Dennis Helmrich. She has received awards in many competitions, such as the National Music Competition in Taiwan; the Asian Audition of International Piano Competition “Mauro Paolo Monopoli Prize;” the Ninth Annual 21st Century Piano Commission Competition with composer John Ritz; the UIUC Concerto Competition; and the Liszt-Garrison International Piano Competition.
Dr. Wang has broad musical interests and is active in a variety of music activities. She is an advocate of contemporary music and is passionate about the world of collaborative music and opera. She worked as coach and accompanist int he opera department of UIUC, led by Maestro Eduardo Diazmuñoz, and has been involved and performed in the operas/musical productions and several choral groups of Blackburn College, Millikin University, Soochow University, UIUC, Gloriana Chamber Choir, Sinfonia da Camera, and Station Theatre.
Dr. Wang is a Nationally Certified Teacher of Music in Piano and is an active member of several professional organizations, including: Music Teachers National Association, National Federation of Music Clubs, College Music Society, and American Liszt Society. Currently, she serves as President of Decatur Area Music Teachers Association.
