A number of students were recognized for their contributions to the UIS Music Program during the Spring 2010 UIS Music Showcase Concert on April 9, 2010 at Sangamon Auditorium.
Three students received scholarships and one student was recognized with a special award.
Jacob House received the Award for Outstanding Contribution to UIS Music. A Springfield native and graduate of Pleasant Plains High School, he is a graduate student working on his master’s degree in history at UIS. He also received his bachelor’s degree in history from UIS and has been a member of the UIS Chorus for seven semesters. During his time at UIS, Jacob also has been active in the Blue Rhapsody A Cappella group and a variety of Springfield community productions.
Kendra Hansel was awarded the Suzanna Kay Shiner Memorial Scholarship. Kendra is a junior Chorus member from Sherman, Illinois. She attended Williamsville High School. At UIS, Kendra is majoring in Legal Studies with a minor in Developmental Psychology. She began singing in elementary school choir, continued with a variety of high school choirs, and has been involved in UIS Chorus since her freshman year. In addition, Kendra has been involved with the Blue Rhapsody A Cappella group on campus.
David Miller was awarded the Paula Roesch Scholarship. David is a sophomore at UIS pursuing a degree in Computer Science. He is from Bloomington, Illinois, where he attended Bloomington High School. David has played the tuba since fifth grade and is now learning to play the drums. For the past two years, he has been a member of the UIS Band and Pep Band.
Jessica Flynn also was awarded the Suzanna Kay Shiner Memorial Scholarship. She is a first-year student at UIS majoring in Legal Studies with a minor in Criminal Justice. Originally from the south side of Chicago, Jessica has been involved in chorus groups and has played the drums in band since elementary school. She is currently a member of the UIS Chorus and also has participated in the UIS Pep Band.
