About the Music Program

The UIS Chamber Orchestra performsThe UIS Music Program, led by a talented team of UIS Music faculty and staff, provides a variety of opportunities for playing and performing. Musical ensembles and affiliated musical organizations are open to students, faculty, staff and Springfield community members.

Music ensembles at UIS include chorus, band and chamber orchestra. Each ensemble performs at a number of concerts each year, including a fall and spring showcase concert at UIS. In addition, many musicians choose to audition to play in the basketball pep band or jazz combo. Plus there are a number of student-created music ensembles on campus.

Visit the UIS Music Archives for photos, video, programs, sounds and more from past performances.

In addition to offering college credit for participation in the music ensembles, the UIS Music Department offers courses that fulfill a variety of university requirements. Depending on the semester, these topics include: Introduction to Music Technology; Music, Technology, and Culture; Jazz and American Culture; and Arts and Identity of Japan and the United States.

UIS Music also offers a number of scholarship, award, work study and graduate assistant opportunities for students.
