To obtain general information about the admissions process and criteria or to request a University catalog, potential students should contact the Office of Admissions.
Evaluation of student credentials is completed formally by Admissions and then forwarded to the Mathematics Program office. Anyone who wishes to enroll in this program must first be accepted by the University of Illinois at Springfield; the program's decision about admission will be made only after all transcripts and the UIS application have been received.
To apply, students must meet the following criteria for transferring to UIS or entering a major program as a Capital Scholar:
Students must also meet entrance requirements specific to the UIS Math Program:
Courses taken to satisfy matriculation requirements are not counted as part of the 48 credit hours of upper-division work needed for graduation. Students may begin work toward a degree before matriculation into the program, but matriculation should be completed before the last 16 semester hours of MAT courses needed for graduation.
Note: Required and elective MAT courses must be taken for a letter grade. The credit/no credit option is not acceptable.
After meeting the requirements for application to UIS, potential students should submit the following to the Admissions Office:
For international students applying from abroad, the deadlines for completing files are: June 1 for fall terms, November 1 for spring terms, and April 1 for summer sessions.
Students will be notified in writing regarding admissions status. The UIS Admissions Office keeps student applications for one year. In the event that a student applies for admission but isn't able to attend immediately (within the application year), s/he should contact the Office of Admissions and request that the application remain active until s/he can attend.
There are some instances in which students are admitted conditionally to the University in their first semester at UIS. A conditional acceptance means that they still have to submit required information to UIS before they can be officially admitted. For example, they may be unable to have all their official transcripts sent to the Admissions Office by the start of the semester. As a second example, if they are able to show sufficient documentation of a minimum of 45 hours of coursework and a 2.0 GPA, they might be conditionally admitted until all official transcripts can be obtained by UIS.
