Liberal Studies Blog Community

The Liberal Studies blog community is an opportunity for our students, faculty, and staff to reflect upon what they’ve learned each week.  This may include reflections of classroom experiences, lessons learned on the job, or life lessons from our personal lives.

If you are a member of the UIS community and would like to join us, please send the URL of your blog to Andy Egizi.  If you’ve never created a blog, he can assist you in creating one.

How to be a good community citizen

  • Try your best to post at least once a week.
  • Be brief.  Not only will this take up less of your time, but others will be more likely to take the time to read your blog.
  • As time allows, read other blogs and add comments to their posts.
  • Add a blog list and direct your readers to other blogs you find interesting.
  • Add a link to UIS.

  • Be polite, even if you disagree.
  • Assume that others are being polite.  (Maybe that comment wasn’t meant to be mean-spirited.   Maybe it just came off bad in writing.)
  • Respect other people’s privacy.  Don’t make references to what you know of other’s lives.  Save that for private emails and conversations.

  • You aren’t obligated to expose any personal details.  You don’t even have to include your name on your blog if you want your thoughts to remain anonymous.
  • Don’t say anything your spouse, partner, mom, significant other, boss, pastor, etc. wouldn’t want to read.
  • Remember that a future employer might Google you during the interview process.  Don’t lose a job before you even know it exists by saying something you’ll regret.
