Description
Ever wonder where you can go to find acceptance, support, or even identity? Well, if you are seeking an empowering truthful journey to find any of those, University of Illinois Springfield presents Queertober: The Happiest Month of the Year! The month long celebration will feature educative and informative events raising awareness for the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, Questioning, and Allied communities.
Free T-Shirts – “Screw Tolerance: Build Acceptance!” What does it mean?
The past few years students wore “Gay? Fine By Me!” t-shirts and “NO H8″ while participating in the Closet Door on the Quad. This year the organizing commitee asks that everyone take a further step by expressing that no one wants to be simply tolerated but accepted.
Tolerance Vs. Acceptance
Tolerance only serves to maintain the status quo. A status quo of indifference, ignorance, misinformation, and ultimately homophobia, transphobia, racism, sexism, ableism, etc. Wear the “Screw Tolerance” Tshirt and take steps in your daily life to remove the barriers keeping you from truly accepting. Educate yourself. Get to know someone different from you. Attend a Queertober event! Nobody wants to be merely tolerated.
Screw tolerance. Build acceptance! Wear this shirt on
Thursday, Oct. 11 while attending the Closet Door on the Quad on National Coming Out Day!
Students receive one free t-shirt. Pick up tshirts at Student Life Building rm. 22 – LGBTQA Resource Office student lounge.
