The SGA voted to approve amendments to their constitution during the April 5 meeting. Some of the changes included:

  • the creation of the position of an Online Student Senator

This senator was added to represent the growing online student population.

  • the creation of the position of an External Vice-President

This position will be the liaison between the SGA and the UIS community at large, as well as the Springfield community.  The External Vice-President is a non-voting position and is appointed by the president.  With this addition, the SGA Vice-President will now be called the Internal Vice-President.

  • the Sergeant-at-Arms title was changed to Parliamentarian

This is to maintain consistency and because “Parliamentarian” is a more accurate description to what the position actually entails.

  • the Capitol Scholars Senator was changed to Undergraduate Senator

The change was made to better describe who the position represents, which is all undergraduate students who started as freshmen at UIS.

  • the number of credit hours required of a graduate student to run for the offices of President or Vice-President was changed from 12 to 8.

This will allow full-time, first-year graduate students to run for those offices.
