The SGA chose three student nominees to represent UIS on the new University of Illinois Presidential Search Committee; Board of Trustees Rep Derek Felix, Internal Vice President Charles Olivier, and former trustee Craig McFarland.
Of the three, the U of I Board of Trustees will choose one to serve on the committee.
In a campus email announcing the nomination process, Felix said the final representative, “must understand that they will be expected to put forth a significant amount of time into the determination of who leads our university system, consisting of more than 70,000 students.”
Even though it is important for our University to have a president, it is interesting to look into the impact of the recent resignations of President White and Chancellor Herman on UIS.
Ultimately, Felix said he doesn’t believe the recent resignations of U of I president Joseph B. White and Chancellor Richard Herman, will have a huge direct impact on UIS.
But, he said, there may be a difference on the whole university system in regards to decisions that would have been made by Herman that will now be made using other resources.
“When all is said and done, the chancellors have the most of the decision making power over their campuses. So when external positions like the president or chancellors need filling, it won’t hurt the other campuses.”
There will be more updates to come on the decisions and actions taken by the soon-to-be completed Presidential Search Committee.
