No pen? No pencil? No problem!
Brookens Library has adapted
a new technology that can help
many users. “Text me this call
number” was first introduced to
UIS in October and has been increasing
popular ever since. The
new feature texts the call number,
location, title, and status of
book to your cell phone.
Sophomore Amy Hindz has
used this feature twice. “I like
it because, no matter what my,
phone is on me. I don’t always
have something to write with,
and sometimes I get the numbers
and letters confused, so it’s pretty
convenient.”
Many other campuses, like Chicago State and Benedictine University, had this feature available for users at the start of the fall semester. The system currently works with twelve different cell phone carriers.
Another program that Brookens
Library will be testing out
soon is a book borrowing service
that will ship books to one’s
home. The service, WorldCat
Direct, will allow the recipient to
either send the book back to online
vendor Better World Books
or to purchase it.
Students are able to access Brookens’ new programs via the library’s website.
