The UIS Volleyball team was swept in both road matches against Rockhurst and Drury, fifth and sixth respectively in the conference standings.
Drury
Earlier in the week, UIS defeated local rival Illinois College in three straight games. Only a couple of days later, they faced a dominant opponent in Drury as they lost (25-11. 25-12, 25-18).Drury’s execution was accurately reflected in their hitting percentage (.469) compared to the Prairie Stars’ (.030).
Their offensive outburst featured two players with double digit kills, including Kyrie Hopkins with 13 and Brianne Holtkamp with 11. Also, Austin Warren poured in 40 assists for the Panthers.
Courtnee Brown led the Prairie Stars with nine kills coupled with Sarah Cooper’s seven. Carrie Gerberding also added 19 assists.
Rockhurst
Traveling nearly 200 miles within 24 hours, the team brought their struggles to Kansas City, Missouri. Losing their sixth game in a row, UIS ended the weekend with a loss to Rockhurst (25-12, 25-17, 25-15).
Only eight UIS players saw court action. Cayla Baggerly led the way with eight kills, with Sarah Cooper and Courtnee Brown adding six. The Prairie Stars resume their road trip, playing two more conference opponents (Northern Kentucky and Bellarmine) to finish out October.
