“We had a much better second half,” head coach Joe Eck said.
“We had some opportunities to tie the match but just couldn’t latch on. Our guys gave a great effort but this league is so strong as we saw again tonight,”
St. Joseph
Although the Prairie Stars held St. Joseph scoreless for a significant amount of the first half, they eventually fell 6-1.
St. Joseph added three goals to the stat sheet within about five minutes of each other, including two goals from St. Joseph’s Greg Gehrig (22:43, 27:57) and one from Bojan Adler. UIS responded with an unassisted goal from Brian Doellman at the 36:10 mark.

Women’s Soccer
Indianapolis
UIS nearly upset fifteen-ranked Indianapolis, losing by the slimmest of margins, 1-0.
Head coach Pete Kowall commented, “We defended better as a team today and made it tough for them to get good shots. I am pleased with the effort but the goal is to win the game.”
The lone goal of the game was scored on a putback at the 30:52 mark by Shelby Spinelli. UIS was led by Casey Thorpe’s two shots, supported by one from both Kyle Browning and Jessica Jaime.
St. Joseph
The Lady Prairie Stars were defeated by St. Joseph, 2-0.

UIS received balanced contribution on offense, including Casey Thorpe’s five shots along with three from both Taylor Hessinger and Beth Rayman and one from Sydney Alstott and Jessica Jaime respectively.
Kowall notes, “We didn’t come out very strong and that was shown with their early goal but we played much better as the match went on and had some strong opportunities but we just didn’t finish them.”
Both teams’ next games are at Kiwanis Stadium, starting Friday at 5 p.m.
