Letter to the Editor: Wearing pink a statement, not a fad

April 1, 2009

Dear Editor,

In your recent Journal student interviews, one student expressed his view that men who wear pink shirts are passé. Wearing a pink shirt actually demonstrate our support of our wives and women friends who are experiencing breast cancer and its painful treatments of Radiation- or Chemotherapy.

Each October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and Springfield's annual "Real Men Wear Pink" Campaign sponsored by the American Cancer Society and Saint John's Hospital. The campaign is to make people aware- university students, as well- that breast cancer awareness is just as important to us men as it is to our mothers, sisters and female friends. Wearing pink helps emphasis the message that we men care as well. Oh, by the way, I wear pink because it makes me look good!
